Mystery Dinner

A great way to play a fun, non-competitive game during dinner is to have a mystery dinner. Fun Party Games for Adults is sure your guest will love this!  It will be fun for you to plan and great for conversation around the table as well.  There are many variations to doing a mystery dinner as well.

Materials needed: Table settings for all of your guests and food you plan to prepare
# of people: 2-100

How to Play Version 1:  Decide what you want to serve for an appetizer, salad, drink, main course, side and desert. In this version everyone will get the same thing but in a different order.

Example of the kitchen menu:
Appetizer: cheese platter-dairy delights
Salad: Cesar Salad- dictators apparel
Drink: Lemonade- pucker down
Main Dish: Lasagna- stacked Italy
Side: Corn on the Cob-eerie bites
Desert: Banana Split- jealous monkey

The menu that your guests will see will only be a list of the code names (be sure to mix up the order so they don't know what is what).  Each guest will right their name on their menu an then put a number (1-6) next to each item on the menu.  Each guest will then get the items they ordered in the order they asked for.  So if someone put a 1 next to their side and a 6 next to their salad they would get their corn first and their salad last.

How to play version 2:  Have a list of options for each course and have each person select 1 item from each course category.

Example Entree's:
BBQ Ribs - Glossy bones
Fried Chicken - Your Goose is cooked
Bourbon Chicken - Drunken Ranger
Polish sausage - Foreign Pig
Country style Ribs - Hillbilly's Bones
Hamburgers - Cow Patties

Example Deserts:
Watermelon - Floods of Mars
Brownies - Devil's Delight
Angel Food Cake & Strawberries - Decadent Halo

Nylon Relay

This is a great game to get a lot of laughs out of those playing and possibly anyone watching as well.  It's a strange fast paced race between teams of 2.

Materials needed: 1 pair of nylons for every 2 people playing, toys and random objects
# of players: 4 or more

How to Play: Split players up into team of 2.  Give each player a pair of nylons and a number of random objects like toys, small pillows, wash cloths, empty water bottles etc.  Once someone says go 1 player on each team will rush to put the nylons on over their clothes, their partner will then help them stuff all of their assigned objects into the nylons.  The players on each team wearing the nylons must then race to the other end of the room.  The first player to finish wins.  After that round you can switch teams.

Pickle

A good card game that mixes a little strategy with a little good luck.

# of players: 2-4 (For more players add another deck of cards)
Materials needed: A deck of face cards

How to Play: The point of this game is to get rid of all of your cards first.  To start deal out 3 face down cards in a row to each player, no one is allowed to look at the 3 face down cards.  Then deal 3 cards face up to each player, place the 3 face up cards on top of the 3 face down cards.  Then deal each player a hand of 5 cards.  The players may look at the 5 cards in their hand.  After all the cards are dealt but before play starts players may switch out any of the 3 face up cards for cards in their hand.  Once play has started trading cards is not allowed.  The players will then start play. The first person to go will put any card from their hand they want face up in the center of the table and replace it with one from the center deck so that they have always have 5 cards.  The next person will then play a card in the center, but their card must be equal to or higher than the card the previous player played.  Each player after that must play a card equal to or higher than the one before.  If you have 2, 3 or 4 of the same number you may play multiples, just make sure you draw thee same amount of cards from the draw pile so you always have 5 in your hand. If at any time you don't have a card equal to or higher than the card on top of the discard pile you must pick up the entire discard pile.  Once the draw pile is gone you will no longer draw a card after you play.  After the draw pile is gone and you have player all the cards in your hand you will play the 3 face up cards in front of you.  After all 3 of the face up cards have been played you will blindly play the 3 face down cards in front of you.  If a face card down you try to play is lower than the card played before it you must pick up the draw pile and play those cards before continuing onto the rest of the face down cards.

Card Values:

Just like in normal card playing a 4 beats a 3 a queen beats a jack and so forth, but there are a couple of exceptions: 2's can be played at any time and takes the value back down to 0 so that the next player can play any card.  10's can be played at any time and clear the discard pile so those cards are out of the game.  If at any time you play the 4th of any one number that also clears the discard pile.  Any time you clear the discard pile you get to go again.  If you are playing with Jokers, they can be played anytime.  They hold the value of the card played right before it and they reverse the direction of play.

The Wind Blows

This is a great game to get to know some things about your fellow party guests.  It will get everyone mingling, laughing and revealing things about themselves they wouldn't normally reveal.

Materials needed: enough chairs for all but 1 player.
# of players: 6-20

How to Play: Set up a circle of chairs, the circle should have enough chairs for each person (accept the person who is it) to have a seat.  The players sit in the circle.  Whoever is "it" stands in the middle.  "It" will call out "The wind blows on anyone who..."  The sentence can end with anything that "it" wants. Examples:

The wind blows on anyone who isn't wearing socks
The wind blows on anyone who dyes their hair
The wind blows on anyone who is still afraid of the dark

If the statement is "The wind blows on anyone wearing blue", then all the players in the circle wearing blue have to get up and find a new seat.  Whoever is it also tries to get one of the seats.  Whoever is the last one to find a seat is now "it".

All Aboard

Today Fun Party Games for Adults presents a great team building game.  This one is great for teens!  This is a great game to get people thinking and working together.  It helps develop communication and strategy skill as well as gets the participants to learn to trust, support and rely on each other.

Materials needed: A large tarp or rope
# of people: 10 or more

How to Play: The goal of the game is to get every participant in the same small space.  Lay out a tarp or create a circle with a rope and tell the participants that they must all fit in side of that rope or all be on top of the tarp.  Have the first round be relatively easy to achieve. Then either fold a portion of the tarp or minimize the area that the rope encircles and tell them they must now get all participants inside the new area.  Keep minimizing the area and see how small of an area they can get each participant in.  They are allowed (but not necessarily told) to stand, sit, lay or kneel on top of each other in any position they find fitting.

Variation: If you are playing with a tarp, you can make it harder by first having everyone fit within the area of the tarp.  Then have them turn the tarp over without anyone touching the ground.

Hook Up (Partner Tag)

This game is a tag game that is played outside.  It's great to play on a summer night because it's cooler.  There is a lot of running so running in the heat of the afternoon could get a bit exhausting.

What you need: a large grassy area to play in
# of people: 6 or more

How to Play: Before starting designate someone who is "it" and someone who is the "extra player".  Then have everyone pair up.  The pairs will hook arms with each other and then stand in a circle.  Once everyone is "hooked" then play will start.  The person who is "it" will start chasing the "extra person".  The "extra person" will try to hook onto one of the pairs before "it" catches them.  If "it" catches the "extra person then the "extra person" becomes "it" and they will turn around and start chasing the person who was "it" but is now the "extra person".  If the "extra person" hooks onto one of the couples before tagged then the person on the opposite side of the hook up is now the "extra person" and starts running from "it".  For example: Cindy is hooked to Joe, if the "extra person" hooks onto Joe then Cindy now becomes the "extra person".

If you happen to have an odd number of people you can play and just have either 2 people be the "extra person" or have 2 people be "it".

Oatmeal Relay

Fun Party Games for Adults is excited for you to try this game.  If you like getting dirty and sticky this is the game for you.  It's a great one for summer because you get all grouse and nasty outside and then you can follow it up with a water fight to get rinsed off!

Materials: swim suits or old clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, 2 large pots of oatmeal, raisins
# of people: 8 or more

How to Play: Make 2 large pots of oatmeal and let it cool.  Take the top half of each pot of oatmeal out of the pot and put temporarily into a bowl.  Mix equal amounts of raisins into the bottom half of both oatmeal pots.  Then put the oatmeal that you took out of the pots back in the pots to cover up the portion of oatmeal that has the raisins.

Take the pots of oatmeal outside and put them at the end of your relay course.  Split the players into 2 teams. For the relay the players on the team will run to the pots of oatmeal one at a time and dig through the oatmeal to retrieve 1 raisin.  Once the player has a raisin they will run it back to the team and drop it in a bucket. They will then tag the next team mate.  The team to win is the first team to retrieve all the raisins in their pot.

Dance Craze

This game will get all of your guests up and moving and having a great time.  It doesn't take long to play and there is no preparation needed.  It's just a lot of fun and great for getting everyone comfortable and laughing.

materials needed: pen and paper for every player
# of people: 2 or more

Hand everyone a small slip of paper and tell them to write down any noun they would like on the paper.  Don't tell them what it is for.  After everyone has written down a noun collect the slips of paper and put them in a bowl or a hat.  Then one by one have everyone draw one of the slips of paper out of the hat.  Each person will have to take turns making up a "dance craze" or simple dance move for whatever word is written on their slip of paper.  They will first do the move and then everyone else will follow.  Once all the slips of paper have been taken and everyone has had a turn to make up a dance move you can play again or move onto dinner or your next game or whatever you want!

This can also be played in couples so that 2 people are coming up with 1 dance move for whatever word they have on their slip of paper together.

Would You Rather?

This is a non competitive game that is more for the fun of the conversation it promotes.  It can be part of a planned party with a large group or can be played on the spot while trying to pass time while on a flight with a friend or family member.  Either way Fun Party Games for Adults is sure you will love this game.

No materials needed
# of players: 2-20

This game starts by randomly picking a player to pose a question that starts with "would you rather..."  It usually ends with 2 options that are embarrassing, gross, scary, horrifying or just plain uncomfortable.  The other players must then tell which thing they would rather do and explain why they would rather do that.  Clarifying questions can be asked before answering.  Once everyone has given their answers and reasons why, someone new will ask a new "would you rather....?" question.

Here are some examples of questions:

Would you rather have your nose grow every time you tell a lie or, always be forced to tell the truth no matter what?

Would you rather be mute or, have to always be talking or making noise?

Would you rather get punched in the gut every 5 minutes for a year or, have to eat a spider every 5 minutes for a year?

Police Lineup

Today Fun Party Games for Adults brings you a game called Police Lineup.  This game was found in a great games book called "The Games Bible" written by Leigh Anderson.  This is a must have book for any game lover.

Materials: pen and paper/index cards
# of players: 6-12 plus a moderator

Prep: Head of time the moderator will write down a bunch of "crimes".  Some examples are "you wore white after labor day", "you farted in the elevator", "you left the toilet seat up" etc.  Write 1 crime per paper or index card.

How to Play: As your guests arrive give them a card with a "crime" on it.  Have them memorize it, write their name on it and give it back.  Once everyone has a crime have the moderator draw one of the cards randomly.  He will look at the name on the card and then invite 3 people (including the person who is on the card) to come to the front in a lineup.  The moderator will then read the crime out loud.  Then the other players will ask questions to try and figure out who is the guilty party. The 2 innocent people will be trying to act guilty because if they are not guilty and someone guesses they are then they get a point. The players then write down their guesses on who they think is the guilty one.  The real guilty one confesses and then the next round begins.

Scoring: Everyone who guesses right gets a point.  The 2 non guilty lineup members get a point if someone thought they were guilty.  The guilty party gets a point if no one guessed him.  The person with the most points after each crime is solved wins.

We are sure you will love this one!

Scavenger Hunts

Remember doing scavenger hunts when you were a kid? Well Fun Party Games for Adults has a few suggestions today on how to make them for adults.

Magazine or Newspaper Hunt: Hand everyone (or each team) a newspaper or a magazine and a pair of scissors.  Then give them a list of words or things.  They must find and cut out everything on the list.  It can be either a picture of the items on the list or written in text form.  The first person/team to get all the items on the list cut out wins.

Road Trip Hunt:  Before leaving on your road trip make a list of things that you may find along the way. With this one you can play every man for himself, split into teams or just work all together to find the things.  Have some of the things be things you have to collect like "a square of toilet paper from a gas station bathroom." Then have some other items on the list be things to take a picture of, like "picture of a welcome to Texas sign."  Whoever has the most items on the list when you reach your destination wins.

Bridal Shower Hunt:  For you next bridal shower shake it up by dividing into teams and have everyone go out and find wedding related things. Examples: a flower, rice, a thank you card, a flier for an exotic location, gift wrap etc.  Set a time limit that everyone must be back by and whoever gets back on time with the most items on the list wins.

With these ideas you can find the child and have a great time!

Sports Bingo

Sports Bingo is a great game to play while watching "the game".  It can be played while watching almost any sport on t.v.  So the next time you have "the gang" over for "the game" try playing Sports Bingo.  It will keep those who aren't as interested in the game it's self having fun watching it too. Fun Party Games for Adults hopes you like it!

Materials: Paper and Pencil (If you want to make it a betting game as well you can each player bring a few bucks for the pot).
# of players: 2 or more

How to Play: Before the game the group will come up with things that players might do, like spit, argue with ref, adjust clothing, scratch, drop the ball etc.  You can have as many of these as your group would like.  Each player then "adopts" a player on one of the teams playing.  Write the predictions horizontally across the top of the page.  Then write the guest and player they are adopting vertically down the left hand side of the page and draw lines to make a graph. For example, if you were playing this game during the 2011 Super Bowl your sheet might look like this:

During the game the guests will watch their player very closely and every time they do one of the actions on the paper they will put and x or a check mark in the square that lines up with their name and the action.  At the end of the game whoever has the most checks in their row wins the pot.

Golf

At Fun Party Games for Adults this is a classic game.  Our family plays it all the time, it's a great card game that doesn't take long and it's great for families because both kids and adults have fun with it.

Materials needed: deck of face cards, pen and paper to keep score
# of players: 3-7 (if you play w/ more people you might need to add a 2nd deck of cards)

Goal: The goal of the game is to have the least amount of points showing in your cards at the end. Card values are listed at the bottom.
How to Play: deal 9 cards, face down, to each player.  Players are not allowed to look at their cards.  Each player will lay their cards out in front of them, face down, in 3 rows of 3, like the picture below.

The rest of the cards go in a stack in the middle.

To start each player turns over 2 cards of their choice.  The top card in the middle stack is then turned over.  The 1st player can take that turned over card or reject it and take one blindly off the top of the deck in the middle.  If they take the top card and like it, they can replace it for one of their own (either turned over or not turned over). If they do not like the card that is turned over from the center stack they can reject it and just turn over a new card of their choice from their own 9 cards.  The 2nd player can then either decide to take the discarded card showing in the discard pile or can reject it and take their chances with the top of the center pile.  Play continues like this around the table.  The someone has all the cards in front of them turned over, all other players have one more turn.  Once the game is over everyone turns over all of their cards and points are counted.

If at any time you have 3 cards of the same number in a row either horizontally or vertically (not diagonally), you may remove and discard all 3 cards.

Points:
2-10 are face value
Jacks and Queens are worth 10 points
Kings and Jokers are worth 0 points
Aces are worth 1 point.

Balderdash!

Fun Party Games for Adults usually tries to tell you all about games that you can play with things that you already have around the house.  Today though we are bringing you an actual board game that you will need to go get in the store or online.  This one is worth buying though.  It's great for small group parties.

Materials needed: The board game Balderdash
# of people: The box says 2-6 players but if you have a few more that will work too.

How to play: This game is a game of bluffing.  It comes with a board, 6 pawns, die, score cards and clue cards.  There are 5 categories on each clue card.  The categories are Peculiar People, Laughable Laws, Marvelous Movies, Incredible Initials and Weird Words. On each card there will be one clue from each category, here is an example of one of the cards.

On the other side of the cards is the answers.  The point of the game is for each player to give a false answer to the question and try and get others to think it's the right answer.  You get points by getting people to vote for your answer and for voting for the right one.  This is a great game for the creative bluffer!

Fruit Basket

This is a great family game that will get you laughing! It's great in any setting and with all kinds of groups, it's not difficult and you don't need anything to play.  It's a great one for camping trips too!

Materials needed: none
# of people: 4 or more

This game is simple.  The players will all sit in a circle.  Each player will pick a fruit that they will be identified with.  No 2 people can have the same fruit.  Once everyone has chosen their fruit and stated it to the group play will start.  All that will happen is 1 person is chosen to start and they will say something like "apple calling grape" (apple being their own fruit and grape being another players fruit).  Whoever is grape will then say "grape calling kiwi" and kiwi will say "kiwi calling huckleberry" and so on.  When it's your turn you can call out any fruit in the circle but your own.

The catch that makes the game funny and challenging is that players must talk with their lips curled over their teeth.  No player is ever allowed to show their teeth, even if it is not their turn.  It can get pretty hard because it's pretty funny to watch and listen to people talk with their lips curled around their teeth, so when you laugh you have to try and laugh without showing your teeth.

There are 3 ways to get "out"
1. You will be out if you show your teeth at any time.
2. You will be out if you hesitate in calling out another fruit on your turn.
3. You will be out if you call a fruit that none of the players chosen.  For example, let's say there are 8 players grape, strawberry, peach, grapefruit, blueberry, banana, apricot and huckleberry.  If grapefruit says "grapefruit calling apple" then grapefruit would be out because there is no apple.

The last person left after everyone is out is the winner.

No Lei!

This is a great ice breaker game for small to medium groups.  It will get your guests mingling and laughing.  Fun Party Games for Adults is sure your next dinner party will be a blast with this one!

Materials needed: a lei (or any kind of necklace) for each guest.
# of players: 6 or more

How to Play: This game is simple, each guest is given a lei when they arrive.  Once all guests have arrived you will explain the rules.  The players are not allowed to say the word "no".  Anyone who does say the word "no" has to give their lei to the person who catches them say the word "no" first.  Usually players will talk to each other and try to get others to say the word "no" so they can collect more lei's.  The person who has the most lei's at the end of the night wins.  Those who loose their lei's can still participate by getting someone else to say the word "no" and collecting a new lei.

Your guests will love playing No Lei!

Signs

This is  great game for Teens and adults, it can get pretty funny. The players have to be quick and sneaky!

Materials needed: none
# of players: 6 or more

Players sit in a circle and select a "sign," or small physical motion that is unique to them. The "sign" should be easily recognizable, but not overly exaggerated (for instance, a small hand motion such as a thumbs-up or V sign work well). A player is selected to stand in the middle.
Play begins with a randomly selected player around the circle (P1). (The person in the middle is not told who the person is.) P1 now "has" the sign, and his/her goal is to "pass" the sign on to another player (P2) as quickly as possible without being caught by the person in the middle. In order to do so, P1 will perform P2's sign. However, P1 still "has" the sign until P2 "receives" or "catches" it by performing their own sign. P2 will then "pass" the sign on to another player as quickly as possible. In some variants of the game, once P1 passes the sign to P2, P2 automatically has the sign; P2 does not need to "receive" the sign from P1.
The person in the center (P3) must try to catch a player "with" the sign. P3 will look around the circle, searching for movement, accusing players by asking some variation of "Do you have it?" A player in the circle may not lie to this question. If P3 correctly identifies the player that "has" the sign, the players trade places and another round begins, with a different player selected to be the first person. It is generally forbidden for P3 go down the line of players and ask them all if they have the sign. It is also against the rules to change who you are passing the sign to. If the person does not see you, you may not try and send it to another player.
In one variant, the game does not need to be played in a circle all at the same time. It generally works best in a large social environment, like a school, church, or camp. The game starts as players, generally a very large group (25+), associate themselves with everyone's sign. Then one person is selected as "it". A player is also selected to start with this sign. Once the two have been selected, life goes on as normal, except now with the random passing and catching of signs throughout the day. However, if the "it" discovers who has the sign, the new "it" does not need to announce their new position as "it".

Guest Guessing

Here is another great icebreaker brought to you by Fun Party Games for Adults.  This is a great game for people to get to know each other better.

Materials needed: Coins/stickers for each player, 4x6 cards and pens
# of players: 6 or more, this is a great one for fairly large groups.

Prep: prepare the 4x6 cards by writing statements on them that the guests will have to finish.  Examples: My most embarrassing moment is..., My favorite holiday is...., My first date was....., I have never....., I love to...., etc.  Make sure you make enough for each player to have one.

How to play:  Place the 4x6 cards in a pile face down.  Each player will be given a card.  The guests are given a few minutes to fill in the blank on their card.  Once the time is up the cards are again collected and shuffled into a pile again.

Each player is then randomly given a card again.  The first player will read what's on the card and guess which guest filled in the blank.  If they get it right then they get a coin/sticker from the person who wrote that answer.   If they get it wrong then the person who really filled in the blank gets to take a coin/sticker from the guesser.  Whoever has the most coins/stickers at the end wins.

The Apple Game

The Apple Game is great for couples parties.  Some couples can get pretty competitive and this game is great for those kinds of couples, it's a lot of fun and pretty funny for those watching from the side.  You can make it pretty simple or very difficult, it's up to you!

# of players: 4 or more (must be played in pairs)
Materials needed: an apple/ball/orange/grapefruit or pretty much anything smallish and round for each couple.

How to play:  Each couple playing holds an apple between their foreheads (to shake things up you can also have them put it between other body parts like shoulders, hips, lips, knees etc).  A leader then gives commands of things that the couples must do without dropping the apple like, "take a step to the side" (easy), "shimmy" (moderately hard) or "do the Macarena" (very hard).  Whichever couple keeps the apple between them without dropping it is the winning couple.

During the summertime you can play this game outside and with water balloons instead of apples, if the water balloon drops but doesn't break the couple may pick it up and continue, if the water balloon pops, then the couple is out.

Have fun with The Apple Game!

Scum!

Welcome again to Fun Party Games for Adults.  Today we have a great card game for you to try.  It's best with a smallish group.
materials: a deck of face cards or Rook cards
# of players: 3-7

How to play: The first round is played neutrally, meaning everyone starts as equals.  Deal out all of the cards (even if some people have one more card than others).  Once the cards are dealt choose someone to go first.  This can be chosen by rolling a dice to see who gets the highest roll or by something like the person with the next birthday goes first.  The person going first plays 1, 2, 3 or 4 cards of the same number, usually playing his lowest cards makes the most sense.  Play goes around the table in a clockwise direction.  Each player must play a card higher than the person before them.  So if player 1 started with a single 2 the next person would have to play a 3 or higher, if player 2 played a single 5 the next person would have to play a 6 or higher.  If it gets to a point where a player can't or doesn't want to play then they can pass.  Play continues around the table until everyone passes except the person who played the last card.  Once a player has passed in a round, they can't play again in that round.  The cards are then cleared and discarded and the person who played the last card starts the next round with the card/s of his or her choice (all players who passed at some point during the previous round can now play again).

If the person who starts the round decides they want to play a double or a triple everyone then must play a double or a triple in that round, for example: player 1 plays a double 4, player 2 must play a double of 5 or higher.  The goal is to get rid of your cards first.

The first person to get rid of all of his cards is the King for the next round, the second to go out is the Queen, the last person to go out is the Scum and the 2nd to last person to go out is the 2nd Scum.  All those to go out between the Queen and the 2nd Scum have no titles.  Everyone will rotate seat to sit in the order that they got rid of their cards.

When the next round starts the Scum has to give the King his best 2 cards and the King gives the Scum whatever cards he wants (usually something low).  The 2nd Scum gives the Queen his highest card and the Queen gives the Scum whatever 1 card she wants.

The King always goes first from this point forward.

Have fun playing Scum!

Acrostics

Acrostics is a fun word game that can be played with a large group at a planned party or on the fly with just you and your significant other after dinner.  Fun Party Games for Adults knows that if you like word games you will really like this one.

Materials: pen and paper for each player
# of players: 2 or more

How to play: In each round the group will pick a word 4-8 letters long.  Each person will write the word twice on the page, once vertically going down and once vertically going up.

Example:

Grassy

G                Y
R                S
A                S
S                A
S                R
Y               G

A timer is set for 5 minutes and then each player must come up with a word that begins with the letter on the left and ends with the letter on the right.  Once time is up points are counted up.  A point is given for each letter used (including the letters you add).  2 letter words are not allowed.

Example:

AppleS
SodA
SouR

This person would get 33 points.  Points are not counted for words that are the same as another player.

This game can be played at a themed party by picking words that go along with the theme of the party

Band, Album, Song

Today the featured game on Party Games for Adults is one you will want to play on your next road trip.  It will make the drive time go by faster, generate good conversation and probably keep you laughing.

Materials: none
# of people: any number

How to Play: This game is simple, as you drive you want to find words or phrases on signs, shops, restaurants or even just graffiti on an overpass that can be the name of a Band, Album or Song.  Point out the phrase and then say band, album or song depending on what you think works best.  Just because you think a phrase is best as a band name though doesn't mean that another passenger will agree, he may things it's better as a song name.  If another passenger disagrees with you then you will have to each argue your cases and then the group will vote.

Another way you can play this is each person secretly writes down a band name, album name and song name.  Once everyone has 1 of each the passengers all vote on which they think is the best (voting for your own answers is not allowed).

Make your next road trip the best road trip!

Name That Tune

This game is basic, but fun.  You don't have to be musically inclined to play this game but it does help.  You can use this game in a music themed party or just as a fun game.  You don't need any materials to play and you can play for a short time as you are waiting for all guests to arrive or for as long as you want!

Materials: none
# of players: 10 or more is best

How to play: Divide the group into 2-3 teams.  Each round 1 player from each team is selected to be the hummer.  The hummers from each team will all be given a song that everyone knows.  They will then go back to their team and start humming the song loud enough for their team to hear but not so loud that the other teams will hear.  The first team to guess the song gets a point.  Play continues until everyone has had a turn to be the hummer.  The team with the most points at the end wins!

Have fun!

New Name Game

This is a great "all night" game to play that starts as guests arrive, continues through hors d'oeuvres, dinner, desert and can even continue simultaneously through other party games you may play.  It's fun to play for themed parties as well.  This is one of the best Fun Party Games for Adults has to offer!

Materials: red circle stickers, name card stickers, a pen
# of people: any number of people

How to Play:  As the guests arrive give them each a name tag with a different name on it, it can be just funny names, celebrity names, or you can even have the guests choose their own new name.  Throughout the night, party guests must refer to each other by their new names.  It doesn't matter if they are speaking to them or about them, their real names are off limits and their new names must be used.

When someone makes a name mistake whoever catches them gets to put a red dot on their face.  Whoever has the most red dots at the end of the night loses.

Name ideas for theme parties:

Music Themes: Use names of famous musicians like Madonna, Billy Idol, John Williams, Wolfgang Mozart, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Peggy Lee, etc.

Super Bowl Party: Use names of football players, coaches, managers, owners etc. Vince Lombardi, Jerry Rice, Brett Favre etc.

Couples/pairs/duos Party: Use names of famous couples/pairs/duo, like Romeo and Juliet, Brad and Angelina, Sunny and Cher, Bert and Ernie, George and Martha Washington, Lucy and Ricky, Adam and Eve, Mickey and Minnie, Bonnie and Clyde, Abbot and Costello etc.

Halloween: Names that are either villains or Halloween related like Headless Horseman, Medusa, Jafar, Madame Mim, Captain Hook, Cruella De Ville etc.

You will love playing the New Name Game with your friends and family!

Group Story

This game is non-competitive and great for team building.  It can get pretty crazy and funny and lets you take well known stories and get creative with them.  It can be played sitting in the living room, during dinner, in the car or even just while waiting for a movie to start.  Fun Party Games for Adults knows that this game can keep you entertained for hours or just a few minutes.

Materials: none
# of people: 2 or more

How to Play:  The group first picks a well-known story that everyone is familiar with.  Examples: Goldie Locks and the 3 bears, Little Red Riding Hood, 3 Little Pigs etc.  The goal is to tell the whole story hitting all the main points and then wrapping it up at the end.  It sounds easy but can be hard when you aren't thinking just like your neighbor because the story is told one word at a time with each player giving a different word.  Continue to go around the table until the story is complete.

Example of Play:

Bill: Once
Sally: Upon
Tina: a
Randy: Time
Sue: There
Gary: Were
Bill: 3
Sally: Bears
etc.

Have fun playing Group Story!

Curses

Most of the games we talk about on Fun Party Games for Adults are games you can play using materials from around the house or things you can get for very cheap at a grocery store.  Today we're going to do something a little bit different and refer a game that you would actually need to buy.

The game is called Curses.  It is a game that will have everyone laughing and making a fool of themselves.  There is no need to be embarrassed because everyone looks just as silly as you.  The point of the game is to be the last one left and catch everyone else not completing their curse.

Each turn you take you draw a card that will have you do an action.  Examples: "Tell someone in the room why your phone service is the best."  "You are a doctor, tell a friend what is wrong with them.".  You must do the action on the card, it is not important how well you do it, just that you try.  After you do the action you will draw a curse card and give it to someone else.  Examples: "name a pizza topping every time someone stands up."  "you can't bend your arms for the rest of the game." "Every time you speak you must play the air guitar." As the game progresses everyone will have multiple curses they will need to remember and do throughout the game.  If you catch someone not doing one of their curses you will ring a bell.  When the bell is rung and you point out the curse they forgot to do they will turn that card over and they no longer have to do it, this sounds good right?  Wrong, once you have 3 cards turned over then you are out of the game.  When you go out of the game you give all of your curses that are still face up to other players.

This game is best played with about 6-8 players.

Fun Party Games for Adults knows you will love this game!

No Name Relay

W call this No Name Relay because it's a relay we played once but we have completely forgotten the name of it and can't find it.  It's almost your average relay except for one major detail.  This is a great game to play with a big group of friends or at family reunions.  You most likely want to play it outside.  At Fun Party Games for Adults we know that this will get your taste buds going.

Materials: Paper sacks, random foods, tin foil
# of Players: 10 or more

Note: Make sure you are aware of any food allergies in the group.

How to Play:  Place a paper bag at one end of the yard/room for each team.  Divide the group into two or three teams.  Wrap the items of food in the tin foil and put them in the bag.  Line the teams up on the other side of the yard/room from the paper sacks.  When you say "go" the first players on each team will run to their sack, pull out an item of food, unwrap it and eat it (they must eat it to keep their team in the game).  Once they are finished eating the item of food they will run back to the team and tag the next player who will then run to the bag of food.  Players will continue to do this until 1 team has eaten all items in their sack and the person to take the last item of food puts the paper bag on their head and makes it back to the team.

Fun Party Games for Adults' list of food ideas:
(One suggestion...you might want to have some foods be good tasting and others not so good tasting, or maybe foods that wouldn't be eaten by themselves)

Candy bar
Peanuts
Popcorn
Sandwich
Apple
Peanut Butter
Onion
Broccoli
Chicken Nugget
Plain Tuna
Beans
Anchovies

Tangled (not the movie)

This game is going to get a little mixed up.  Don't be afraid to get up front and personal with your fellow players.  This will definitely get everyone comfortable with each other. This is the kind of game that Fun Party Games for Adults loves!

Materials: none, just a lot of open space.
# of People: 8 or more.

How to play:  Everyone stands in a circle and without looking extends their right hand into the center and grabs someone elses hands.  Then everyone puts their left hand into the circle and grabs another hand.  Make sure everyone's hands are connected.

Now the fun begins!  Everyone must try and untangle themselves by going under and over and in and out.  The goal is to get the circle completely untangled without letting go of each others hands.

Have fun playing Tangled.

Spoons

Fun Party Games for Adults is sure you will love this game! You will need to be quick and possibly even sneaky. This is a great card game for small intimate parties and groups.

Materials: deck of cards and spoons

# of people: 3-8 players

In spoons, the goal is to get a 4 of a kind and make sure you aren't the last to try and grab a spoon.

Everyone sits in a circle either at a table or on the floor.  You should have enough spoons for all but one player (kind of like musical chairs).  Put the spoons in the middle of the circle.  Shuffle the cards and deal 4 cards to each player.

To start the game the first person to deal will grab a card off the top of the remaining deck.  He will either keep that card and pass one from his hand to the left or pass the card he draws to his left.  Each person in the circle will get a card from the person on their right and decide which card they want to pass to their left.  The person at the end will put the card he doesn't want in a discard pile.  The goal is to get a set of 4 cards of the same number.  If you get a set of 4 you grab a spoon from the center.  Once the first person grabs a spoon everyone races to grab the rest of the spoons.  Because there is one less spoon than there are people, one person will be spoonless.  That person gets an S, starting to spell the word SPOONS.  If that person loses again they get a P and so on until they spell the word SPOONS.  Whoever spells SPOONS first is out.  Play continues until only one person has not lost enough times to spell SPOONS, that person is the winner.

Variations:

Water Spoons: With each round whoever loses has to drink a large glass of water, and no one can go to the bathroom until they are out of the game.  If they give in and go then they are automatically out.

Extreme Spoons:  Instead of putting the spoons in the middle of the circle, put them on the other side of the room or even in another room.  You can even add to the extremeness of it by putting obsticals in the way like pillows, chairs, other furniture, etc.  This way when the first person takes off to get a spoon the group is racing, tackling and wrestling for spoons!  Be careful!

Have fun!

Poison Letter

This game will keep players thinking on their feet.  This game is great to play in your living room or around the table with some chips and salsa. Fun Party Games for Adults is sure you will love the game Poison Letter.

Materials: none

# of players: any number but it's best with larger groups

This game is played in rounds.  In each round you want to be the last one left who doesn't mess up.  The players will take turns picking a "Poison Letter".  Each round the players will take turns giving answers within a theme that do not include the "Poison Letter."

The first player to choose the "Poison Letter" starts the round by saying "The Captain doesn't like the letter... What..."

Example: "The Captain doesn't like the letter M.  What will he eat for dinner?"

Going in a clockwise direction, starting with the person on the first players left, give answers to the question of things the Captain can eat that don't include the letter M.  Some answers could be chicken, french toast, spinach, eggs, corn etc. If anyone takes too long to answer, uses a word that has the "Poison Letter" in it or gives an answer that doesn't fit the theme, they are out for that round.  This round continues around the table/room until there is one person left.

Example of Play:

"The Captain doesn't like the letter F, what will he wear?"
"Sandals"
"Pajamas"
"Shorts"
"Flip flops" (this person would be out because they used a word that had the F in it.)
"Palm Tree" (this person would also be out because they said something that does not fit with something you wear.)

Play as many rounds as you like.  Whoever wins he most rounds wins the game.

Examples of themes:

"Where does he live"
"What does he plant in his garden"
"What are his hobby's"
"Where does he vacation"
"What will he buy"

You are going to have so much fun playing "Poison Letter"!

In the Manner of the Adverb

No materials needed.  Can be played with 4+ players

Gather the players together.  Send 1 person out of the room and out of ear shot of the group.

The group then thinks of an adverb, most adverbs end in "-ly". example: slowly, gracefully, anxiously or ferociously.  Make sure it is an adverb that describes how someone would do something.

Once an adverb is decided invite the person who went out of the room to come back in.

The person who went out and doesn’t know the chosen adverb will ask players to do certain tasks “in the manner of the adverb.” examples: brush teeth, mow the law, write a letter to your mom...in the manner of the adverb.

Once the person guesses the adverb a new person is sent out of the room and new adverb is chosen.

Bum Charades

Fun Party Games for Adults suggest you play this game with a group of people who are comfortable with each other, it's great for families or a group of close friends.  It can be kind of embarassing for some people if they don't know the others in the group.

The only thing needed for this game is something to keep time like a watch, kitchen timer or even a sand glass timer from another game.  You can play with any number of people.  It is helpful to have a fairly large space to play in.

How to Play: Split the group into 2 teams. The group chooses a topic like, fruits, flowers, animals, characters, colors etc.  Team 1 will choose a player to go up and spell a word with their bum that relates to the topic.  The rest of team 1 tries to guess the word their teammate is spelling.  If they guess the word within 2 minutes team 1 gets a point.  If they can't get it within 2 minutes then team 2 gets 1 guess of what the word is, if they get it right they steal the point from team 1, if they don't get it right then no one gets a point.  Then it is team 2's turn to pick a player to spell a word with their bum. You can change topics as often as you like and play to whatever score you want.

Bottoms Up!

I've Never

Materials: Players and chairs (1 less chair than there are players)

How to play: put the chairs in a circle.  1 person stands in the center and the rest of the players sit in the chairs.  The person in the middle of the circles says "I've never..." and tells something they have never done.  Anyone in the circle who has done that thing has to get up and find another seat.  The person in the middle tries to find a seat as well.  Whoever is left without a chair then starts the game over.

Greased Watermelon Polo

This game must be played in a swimming pool.  It's great for anyone who likes to swim and be active.  Great for 2 people or 20 people.  this is the ultimate of fun party games for adults.

Materials: swimming pool, watermelon, petroleum jelly or Crisco

Prep: Spread petroleum jelly or Crisco all over the watermelon

Play: Each team will be set up on opposite sides of the pool. All players will start out by their wall of the pool. Drop the watermelon into the center of the pool. As the watermelon hits the water the teams will move to the center to get the watermelon. Players attempt to get the watermelon to the other team's wall and keep it away from their own wall.  watermelon can be  pushed or floated in the water but can't be lifted out of the water.  If the watermelon is lifted out of the water that is a foul, whoever fouled must sit out of the pool for 2 minutes before returning. Players can "wrestle" for possession of watermelon but may not hit, kick, bite, pull hair, scratch or choke, these are all considered fouls.  Whoever gets the watermelon to touch the opposite team's wall first wins a point.  After a point is scored re-grease the watermelon and start again.  Playing to 3 or 5 points is good but you can play to whatever you want.

Cheers!

Water Balloon Volleyball

With summer in full swing, Fun Party Games for Adults will be posting some fun summertime games.  To start we will be doing water balloon volleyball.  You will most likely get wet in this game so make sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting wet in.  This is great to play in a series of water games or by itself.  If you will be going inside for the rest of the party, guests may want to bring some extra clothes. Fun Party Games for Adults wishes you the best in your summertime games and follies!

Materials: a bunch of water balloons, a volleyball net and a bunch of towels.

Before the game: Set up the net and fill up all the water balloons.

To play: Divide up into teams. There should be an even number of players on each team.  Each team will then divide up into pairs.  Each pair will have 1 towel, each person will hold an end of it.  The first team will start with one of the pairs putting a water balloon on their towel, the pair will then move together to “throw” the water balloon over the net with the towel.  The  team on the other side will try to catch the water balloon with their towels and then “throw” it back over to the other side.  When a water balloon breaks, the team on the opposite side of the net gets a point.  The first team to get to 21 points wins.

Enjoy Water Balloon Volleyball!

Mafia

Mafia is a role play game.  Each player is a citizen of a small town.  This game consists of bluffing, guessing, convincing, manipulating, revenge, debate and much much more.  Fun Party Games for Adults invites you to be creative and change or add to this game as you please!

Setting:  A small town of good citizens has been invaded by the mafia.  By day the mafia appear as normal citizens but at night they murder citizens of the town in their sleep.  To rid their little town of the mafia the citizens hire a detective to find out who is doing all the killings.  To keep himself from getting killed by the mafia, the detective goes undercover as one of the citizens.  The narrator knows all and is in charge of making sure the game goes smoothly.

Set up: Create a citizen card (Index cards or small pieces of paper work well) for all players except for 3 or 4 depending on how many people are playing (See chart below). Create Mafia Cards for 2 or 3 players and 1 detective card.
Set up a circle of seats, make sure there are enough seats for each player.

Before you begin: Choose 1 person to be the narrator, this person will not play the game but will be giving instructions and making sure play runs smoothly.  Have the narrator shuffle the player cards and give each player a card without letting anyone else see.  Once everyone knows if they will be a citizen, mafia or detective play starts.

To Play: This game takes place over a series of “days” and “nights”.

The game begins with the first night.  Everyone goes to sleep (The narrator asks everyone to close their eyes)

The narrator asks the mafia to open their eyes.  The narrator then asks the mafia who they want to murder.  The mafia then agree to kill off one citizen by pointing.  The narrator then asks the mafia to close their eyes.

The narrator asks the detective to open his eyes. The detective points to a person, the narrator then nods their head “yes” if that person is a mafia and shakes their head “no” if they are a citizen. The narrator asked the detective to close his eyes.

The narrator then asks everyone to open their eyes and announces it is morning.  The narrator then reveals who was killed by the mafia (stories of how the mafia did it are encouraged.).

The citizens all discuss who might be the mafia.  Once 2 people are nominated and seconded as mafia members there is a vote.  Whichever person has the most votes is run out of town or hung for being a member of the mafia.  That player then reveals if he was a mafia, citizen or detective.

Night then falls and the game starts over until either the mafia win by killing off all the citizens or the towns people win by getting rid of all the mafia.

Additional Rules:

Those who have been killed and are no longer in play may keep their eyes open for the rest of the game but may not talk or hint in any way to the remaining players who the mafia is.

Suggestion from Fun Party Games for Adults:
Another way to make it fun is for each person to have a character and to have each person introduce themselves at the beginning of the game. EX: Bert Gilson the blacksmith, Rhonda Pickens the school teacher or Samuel Simpson the shoemaker.

If you have more than 10 players and want to have a second detective you can.

If there is a tie in voting for who should be run out of town as the mafia, each nominee can argue their case and then the players vote again until someone changes their vote.

Two Truths and a Lie

While growing up, this was a game we played a number of times in different settings, like school, girls camp, birthday parties etc.  Fun Party Games for Adults challenges you to be as creative as possible with this one. It works well as a get to know you game.

The party guests go around the room taking turns telling 2 things about themselves that are true and 1 thing about themselves that is a lie.  The rest of the guests then have to decide which one is the lie.  Each player that gets the lie right gets 1 point.  If no one guesses the lie right then, the teller gets 3 points.  After everyone has taken a turn the points are added up and the player with the most points wins.

If there is a game you remember playing as a kid but don't remember the rules or name of the game feel free to leave a comment for us at Fun Party Games for Adults with the details you do remember and we will do our best to figure out what it is and post it on the blog.

Four on a Couch

Fun Party Games for Adults brings you this fun game that will test your memory and keep everybody moving.  Don't forget who's on your team and try and remember what name has been called already.

Materials: A couch or bench plus seats for all players plus 1 extra. Paper with each players name on it.

Prep: Write each players name on a different piece of paper.

How to win: Get 4 of the players on your team on the couch.

How to play: Create a circle with the seats including the couch.  Divide into teams, boys vs. girls is easiest if there is equal number of each.  Put 2 players of each team on the couch so there are 4 people on the couch.  The rest of the players sit anywhere else in the circle leaving one chair empty.  Have everyone draw a different name written on the papers.  Each person keeps the name that they have a secret.  The person to the right of the empty seat asks one of the players to come sit next to them.  The person who has that name on their paper gets up and sits in the empty seat, then the caller trades name papers with the person who moved.

Example: Chloe calls Bryan to come sit in the empty seat.  Sidney, who has the name Bryan, goes to sit in the empty chair.  Chloe and Sidney now trade names.  Now we all know that Chloe has the name Bryan and Chloe knows what name Sidney has but no one else does.

Whoever is to the right to the new empty seat calls out a new name.  As the game progresses the players start to learn who is holding what name.  The players who are on the couch will want to remember what names their team mates are holding so they they can call them onto the couch when a spot opens up.  The players in the chairs will want to remember the names that the opposite team is holding so they can pull them off of the couch to free up a spot for their teammates on the couch.  Whichever team gets all 4 couch spots filled with their team members first wins.

Fun Party Games for Adults hopes you  enjoy Four on a Couch!

Fun Party Games for Adults loves this game because it's great for all different types of people as well!

Straight 1-6=1500

If ever you roll the dice and there are no points showing this is called a Farkle and your turn is done.

If you roll the dice and at least 1 die shows points you can lock in those points and end your turn or you can risk those points and roll the remaining dice.  You can decide to stop rolling and lock in points at any time, but if you ever roll 0 points, you farkle and lose all points earned and your turn is over.

You can not combine points from different rolls.

If you happen to score points on all 6 dice, you may pick up all the dice and continue rolling until you decide to either lock in your points or you Farkle.

The final round begins as soon as someone gets 10,000 points or higher.  Each player then takes an additional turn.  Whoever has the most points over 10,000 wins.

Some additional house rules:

You must get at least 300 points to lock in your score

If you Farkle 3 times in a row it is worth negative points (500 for example) or you lose all of your points.

If the player before you locks in with dice left over you can adopt their score and try and roll the remaining dice to add onto their score.  If you roll points with the remaining dice you can lock in all those points.  If you do not roll points your turn is over and you Farkle.

Have fun playing Farkle!

What if?

Fun Party Games for Adults is a blog dedicated to finding and sharing new games.  Most of the games posted will be for people of all ages, a few will be fun party games for adults only and we may include a few for kids just for good measure.  Each week day we will ad a new game with the instructions and items/people needed to play the game.  Our first game is called What if?

What you need for What if?:  a lot of slips of paper and a pen for each player.

# of people: 6-20

How to Play What if?:  Each person takes a a blank slip of paper and writes a question that starts with the words "What if..." (ex. What if dogs had people for pets?).  Make sure to leave room on the paper for a response.

Everyone then puts their question into a hat/bowl or just the center of the table.

Then each player draws one of the questions that was thrown into the center, do not draw your own question.

Once each player has a question they will write an answer to that question.  So if the question was "What if dogs had people for pets?" Someone might respond with "Then we would all have flees".

Once every one has written an answer to the question they have, one person reads the question on their slip of paper without reading the answer.

The person to the left of the person who started then reads the answer on their slip of paper to answer the previous question.

Once the last person reads their question, the person who started reads the answer on their slip of paper.

Then you can start over.

Tip: It is often more funny to have questions that involve people that are playing or people that everyone playing knows (ex. What if Marcia married her high school boyfriend? or What if Madonna had a beard?)
